The use of technology is also increasing with time and circumstances. But the fact cannot be denied that it is often used negatively. What is better is that especially the new generation should take full advantage of this responsibility۔
With the passage of time, while man has opened the door of innovations and inventions to provide comfort and happiness to his life, human life has also been badly faced with evil and its possibilities. Moral values have been eroded in the modern era through social media, hardly any era has passed in which human values have been undermined in this way. In today’s era of “social media war”, there is no shortage of people on social media who do not know the difference between sharing good and bad content.
On social media, such problems as a distortion of human forms, taunting of opponents, violation of self-respect and transmission of various posts without research and correction and “friendship” have arisen, which are treated by contemporary researchers. For researchers, if not impossible, then at least difficult. It is the duty of parents and all conscious sections of society to inform the youth of today about the positive and negative aspects of social media. Due to the lack of proper and timely training on social media, today’s youth are trampling on their ancestors and social and moral values in ignorance. The use of social media is the need and demand of the time today, but it is possible to achieve worldly and hereafter success only by using it within the scope of Islamic values and civilization.
What are the effects of social media on our social and moral life and what are the motivations due to which we unknowingly share positive and negative content? These points are being explained in light of these Islamic teachings and modern requirements in the article under review: Creating
an account on
social media No one can deny the importance of social media in this day and age. It is better to create an account on Twitter, Instagram, Skype and Facebook, etc., if the intention is to provide information based on Islamic values or to attract people to goodness. One can also create an account for the purpose of popularizing modern sciences. However, if the aim is to promote sin and spread evil through it, then it will be completely illegal and forbidden. Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran:
“And help one another in deeds of righteousness and piety, and do not help one another in deeds of sin and injustice, and fear Allah.”
Islam encourages telling the truth. At many places in the Holy Qur’an, not only has it been encouraged to avoid lying, but the prophet has described the liar as a hypocrite. Today, it is common practice to lie to your unknown friends on social media and make statements contrary to the actual facts. Similarly, it has also been seen that sometimes people create their accounts with an unknown or fake name. If we examine the fake and false identity account in terms of Islamic values, then this act is very ugly and condemnable. It was narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Indeed, you will find the worst of people who has two faces, one will meet with one face and the other with another face.”
Acceptance of friend request: The quality of friendship has also changed in modern times. It was the practice of our ancestors that if they were to be friends with someone, they would prefer a good and pious person, but the trend of friendship has changed in modern times. Sometimes we get friendship acceptance messages on social media. In this case, it should be decided by looking at the data of this employee that there is no immorality found in it.
Participation in educational and useful
programs on social media While there are negative effects of social media, no intelligent and understanding person can deny its benefits and positive effects. Participating in educational or useful programs and forums on social media is not only permissible but recommended. It was narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: “The word of wisdom is the lost possession of a believer, he is entitled to it wherever he finds it.” via social media Organizing various programs, in which profit can be made for the public and guidance can be provided to the people related to the current problems, is permissible and recommended because the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The most beloved person to Allah Ta’ala among the people is the one who is most beneficial to the people.” Makes one’s existence beneficial to others, not harmful.
Broadcasting and publication of non-researched materials
Allah, the Exalted, said:
“O you who believe! If an evil-doer person brings any news to you, then research it carefully (so that it does not happen) that you cause (unjust) suffering to a nation in ignorance, then you continue to regret what you have done.” (Al-Hujraat: 6)
The Prophet’s Hadith is the first commentary of the Qur’an which explains the teachings, mysteries, symbols and signs of the Qur’anic teachings in detail and explanation. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “It is enough for a person to be a liar that he repeats what he hears.” The meaning of the aforesaid verse and hadith clearly states that nothing should be stated without research and revision. These principles and rules were adopted by the Imams of Islam. During the acquisition of hadith, if he found out that a person had lied, he would not take the hadith from that person. In today’s age, we don’t bother to confirm, as soon as we hear someone, we immediately start explaining. Forwarding a post is a similar process. In light of the above-mentioned hadith, this practice should be avoided۔
