Srinagar, Jul 24 : Noted Kashmiri actor and model Mateena Rajput will join the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) on Saturday, party sources said.
The 29-year-old Valley-based artist will formally become a member of the regional party at a function here, they added.
Confirming her decision to The Web Story/The Varmul Post Muteena Rajput said she was venturing into politics with a clear objective to serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially the youth.
“I am joining politics to serve my people, particularly the younger generation who are the future of this region. I want to contribute meaningfully towards their welfare and empowerment,” she said.
A native of north Kashmir, Rajput made her film debut with ‘Welcome to Kashmir’, a Bollywood production directed and produced by Kashmiris. The film focused on themes of women’s empowerment and drug abuse among the youth. The movie was shot extensively in the Valley.
Rajput began her entertainment journey in 2021 with appearances in Punjabi music videos. Her early credits include “Tumhe Dekh Ke” by Salman Ali, released under Salim Sulaiman Music, followed by “Bol Kaffara – Dil Galti Kar Baitha Hai” by Waqar Khan, and “Sach Dass” alongside Kabul Bukhari.
In 2022, she featured in “Pyaar Hua Ke Nahin” by Faizaan Salar, “Jogi” by Sonali Dogra, and “Teri Bewafai” by Salman Ali. She continued her music video work in 2023 with another version of “Teri Bewafai” by Sukh Sandhu, and most recently appeared in “Bahar Aaw (The Spring Song)” in 2025.
Rajput’s induction into the party is being seen as an effort by the Apni Party to reach out to the younger demographic and strengthen its connect with the cultural fraternity of the Valley.
The Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party, founded in March 2020, has been positioning itself as a regional alternative with a focus on peace, development and restoration of statehood through dialogue.
Meanwhile, the party leadership has welcomed Rajput’s decision, terming it a “positive step” towards broader public participation in the political process of the Union Territory.
