Baramulla, Oct 18 : Cricket in Kashmir is witnessing significant growth, particularly with the return of international matches to the region after 26 years. Over the past ten days, the excitement surrounding cricket has been palpable among the people of Kashmir. To sustain this momentum, the Baramulla Premier League 2024 has commenced, and the enthusiasm is palpable.
As per The Web Story/The Varmul Post Correspondent, The inaugural match took place at St. Joseph’s Playground and the match set a vibrant tone for the series.
The league showcased enthusiastic participation from several school teams, reflecting the growing interest and talent in women’s cricket in Baramulla.
The Indian Army, in collaboration with the local authorities of Baramulla, is organizing this league.
Deputy Commander of the 19th Artillery Brigade honored the event as Chief Guest. The General Secretary of the Baramulla Cricket Forum, Zubair Bashir Dar, was also in attendance, adding to the event’s prestige.
In his address, the Chief Guest emphasized the importance of sports in building character and discipline among youth. He praised the participants for their enthusiasm and encouraged them to pursue their passion for cricket with dedication.
Farooq Ahmad a local cricketer told The Web Story/The Varmul Post that this initiative not only promotes physical fitness and teamwork but also aims to inspire more young women to engage in sports, thereby contributing to their overall development and empowerment. He said such leagues should be conducted in future also.
The Women’s Premier League 2024 promises to be an exciting series of matches, with teams competing fiercely for the title.
