Srinagar, Sep 20: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has turned the tables on Sajad Lone, questioning who is truly perturbed by the possibility of Yasin Malik’s release.
In a sharp reaction, PDP leader Najmu Saqib stated that the sole goal of Sajad Lone’s politics has been to discredit local political movements at the behest of vested interests.
In a recent interview with local media, Saqib, a youth leader of the PDP, accused Lone of misusing the patronage of the BJP’s top leadership to misguide central agencies operating in Kashmir post-2019.
“It is no secret that Sajad Lone acted as the chief architect of NIA raids in Kashmir, weaponizing institutions against political opponents and ordinary citizens,” Saqib claimed. “He strangulated democracy by using intimidation and threats to break parties and extort loyalty. The damage he inflicted on the democratic fabric of J&K cannot be erased.”
The leader also referenced the infamous cross-border narco-smuggling case, alleging a cover-up by the NIA in which Sajad Lone was personally involved. Saqib described this as a shameful act of misusing institutions for political expediency.
“Sajad Lone today stands completely exposed. His hypocrisy, doublespeak, and opportunism have reached their peak,” Saqib said. “On one hand, he positions himself as the self-appointed moral voice of Kashmir, but on the other, his past actions and present affiliations betray his true face.”
The PDP leader then questioned Lone’s recent criticism of Mehbooba Mufti for writing to the Home Minister seeking relief for Yasin Malik. “The question is: why is Sajad Lone perturbed? Does he not want Yasin Malik to be released? Or is he secretly hoping for a death sentence so that the JKLF legacy passes to his wife, Asma Khan Lone?” Saqib asked.
He further noted that Lone’s silence on advocating for Malik’s release—despite being in an alliance with the BJP—raises significant questions. “What stops him from speaking truth to his own allies? The people of Kashmir can smell the duplicity.”
Saqib dismissed Lone’s claims of a moral high ground as opportunistic. “When Sarjan Barkati was slapped with FIRs, why did Sajad Lone not resign as a minister? Why the selective conscience now?”
