The Jammu and Kashmir Nationalist People’s Front (JKNPF) today announced that it will be launching a people’s movement to demand more water for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The party will be asking for a just allocation of water resources as per the Indus Water Treaty and an equitable distribution of water between the two nations.

“Water is a basic necessity and it is imperative that the people of Jammu and Kashmir receive their fair share,” said the chief patron of JKNPF Sanjay Kumar.

“We believe that the Indus Water Treaty must be upheld and that the people of Jammu and Kashmir must receive their fair share of water resources,” he said.

The movement will involve a series of events and activities aimed at raising awareness about the importance of water access and the need for a just allocation of water resources.

The party will also be working closely with local communities to gather support for the movement and to ensure that their voices are heard.

“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have suffered for too long without access to sufficient water resources,” said party president Shiekh Muzzaffar.

“It is time for their voices to be heard and for their rights to be respected,”Muzaffar added.

The Jammu and Kashmir Nationalist People’s Front is committed to working towards a better future for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and will continue to advocate for their rights and access to essential resources.

Pertinent to mention here that India has delivered a message to Pakistan that it wants to modify the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). The treaty was signed between the two countries in 1960, with the World Bank as guarantor, to regulate use of their shared rivers.

The demand from India is for Pakistan “to enter into inter-governmental negotiations within 90 days to rectify the material breach of IWT. This process would also update IWT to incorporate the lessons learned over the last 62 years.
