Srinagar, April 17 ; Former Law Minister and senior politician Syed Basharat Bukhari is reportedly planning to run as an independent candidate for the parliamentary elections in Baramulla.
Sources revealed to The Web Story/The Varmul Post that there former MLA Sangrama will contest lok sabha elections from Baramulla seat.
Sources said that there is great excitement among the people in the region to see him contest for this seat.
Meanwhile, Syed Basharat Bukhari himself confirmed this development to The Web Story/The Varmul Post, stating that he has been receiving calls from people all over Baramulla. However, he has not made an official announcement yet and will make a decision with the consent of his well-wishers and the people.
Pertinently, Basharat Bukhari, known for his broadcasting skills at Radio Kashmir Srinagar (now AIR Srinagar), previously served as the MLA from the Sangrama constituency in the former state of Jammu and Kashmir.
He held various positions, including Minister of Law, Justice, Parliamentary Affairs, Revenue, Horticulture, and DMRRR in Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s cabinet.
In December 2018, Bukhari joined the National Conference after being expelled from the PDP. However, in 2021, he left the National Conference and joined Sajad Lone-led People’s Conference, before being expelled from the party in June last year.
