Srinagar, Aug 14 : Deputy Inspector General Rayees Mohammad Bhat, IPS has been conferred the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in the Independence Day 2026 honours list for his distinguished service in Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The 2010-batch IPS officer has been recognized for his long record of service across key districts and ranges in the Union Territory.
During his career, Rayees Bhat has held several important postings.
He has served as SSP Pulwama, SSP Baramulla and SSP Udhampur. He has also held charge as DIG South Kashmir Range and DIG Udhampur Range.
At present, he is serving as DIG, CID Kashmir.
Officials told GNS that his tenure at these sensitive postings was marked by professional competence, operational handling and public outreach.
The Meritorious Service Medal honours his sustained contribution to law and order, investigations and policing in J&K over the years.
J&K Police congratulated the officer, stating that the award reflects his dedication and commitment to duty.
This year, a total of 51 J&K Police personnel have been named for national honours on Independence Day 2026, including 38 Police Medal for Gallantry and 13 Police Medal for Meritorious Service.(GNS)
