Sopore, May 1: Drug abuse has emerged as a serious threat to the younger generation, the Sopore Police said Friday, as it led a mass awareness rally under the ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’ with civil society members, shopkeepers, and locals participating in large numbers.
The rally, led by Station House Officer (SHO) Sopore Syed Ayaz Geelani, moved through key areas of the north Kashmir town, with participants carrying placards and raising slogans against substance abuse. Officials described the turnout as one of the largest in recent months.
Speaking on the occasion, SHO Ayaz Geelani said the menace has stretched beyond policing and into a social crisis. He called upon parents, teachers, and citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with police in identifying and reporting anti-social elements involved in pushing drugs.
The march ended with a public pledge to build a drug-free Sopore. Officials said more such rallies are planned across Baramulla district as part of a community policing push.
