Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), J&K Campus, in collaboration with the J&K State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), on Monday commenced a one-week intensive training programme on ‘Tech-Driven Response Strategies During Disasters’, aimed at strengthening the technology-enabled disaster response capabilities of SDRF personnel.

The five-day programme focuses on equipping disaster-response personnel with specialised knowledge, technological tools and practical strategies to ensure faster, more efficient and resilient responses during emergencies.

The inaugural session was attended by Imtiyaz Hussain Mir, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Director of SDRF and Civil Defence, Kashmir, who was the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Mir underscored the growing importance of technology in disaster management, particularly in view of the increasing frequency and scale of natural disasters. He said the need for technology-driven preparedness has become more critical given the challenges posed by nature, referring to the recent disasters witnessed across the Himalayan region.

He stressed that modern technology can play a crucial role in improving preparedness, coordination, rescue operations, communication and decision-making during disasters.

Dr Mahesh Tripathi, Director, RRU J&K Campus, expressed satisfaction over the commencement of the programme and thanked the J&K SDRF for its collaboration and for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that has enabled such specialised capacity-building initiatives.

Dr Bilquees, Programme Coordinator, said the training was designed not merely to impart knowledge but also to encourage participants to develop practical and innovative ideas for strengthening the disaster-response mechanism.

She said that by the conclusion of the programme, participants would leave with greater knowledge as well as “new ideas that can make our disaster-response system more technology-enabled, efficient and resilient.”

The five-day programme will include specialised sessions, practical exposure and interaction with resource persons from RRU’s main campus, focusing on the application of technology in disaster preparedness, response and resilience.
