Kupwara, Feb 29; After the abrogation of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing remarkable achievements in the sports sector. It is not only providing a platform for sports enthusiasts but also enhancing sports infrastructure for the betterment and successful future of athletes and players.
The latest milestone has been achieved in Kupwara district of north Kashmir, where the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha recently inaugurated the first-ever multi-purpose indoor sports hall. This facility aims to significantly boost sports activities in the union territory.
Aijaz Hussain, a coach at the recently inaugurated indoor sports hall, told The Web Story that this sports hall is poised to become a hub for various indoor sports, offering a versatile space for activities such as badminton, basketball, volleyball, and Wushu.
He said that more than 100 students have since then enrolled in the stadium for coaching in different sports.
Aijaz said all credit goes to the Youth Sports Secretary Nuzhat Gul, whose efforts are now giving fruitful results as youths are taking part with full enthusiasm in the sports activities.
Asif Rasool, a player, in a conversation with The Web Story said, “I am so grateful to those who provided us a platform here.”
He said, “I had represented Kashmir at three national level tournaments; however, the lack of a platform always made us suffer but now with this platform, not only will it help hundreds of youth showcase their skills but also represent our country at the international level.”
Peerzada Zubair, a local resident, told Web Story that with the opening of this sports hall, young athletes in the region now have access to top-notch facilities to train and improve their skills.
He stated that the facility includes multiple courts for different sports, equipped with modern equipment and amenities that can really help our future stars showcase their skills and learn their favorite indoor sport.
Aatif Ahmad, a famous cricketer in the area, expressed his appreciation for the admin’s decision to open the sports hall. In an interview with The Web Story, he mentioned that initiatives like this are crucial in helping the younger generation stay away from drugs, considering the grave concern that drug usage has become. Aatif believes that the opening of this indoor hall will encourage them to actively participate in sports-related activities.
He further stated that the sports hall will not only host tournaments and competitions but also provide a platform for athletes to display their talents and compete against their peers.
According to Aatif, this initiative will not only boost the morale of the local sports community but also offer talented individuals an opportunity to catch the attention of national and international teams.
