“Please Bring My Mother Back—Who Will Make Me a Bride Now?” Pleads Daughter Set to Marry Next Month“We Are Not for War—Our Days and Nights Are the Same. We Just Wait, Knowing We Could Die at Any Moment,” Say Residents

Uri, May 09 : Fate had other plans. Who could have imagined that in the struggle to survive, life itself would be lost?

It was around 9 PM on Thursday when a family of nine was fleeing shelling in Razarwani village, Uri. Their vehicle was struck by Pakistan’s targeted bombardment, killing a 40-year-old woman and injuring three other family members.

“We were waiting for the vehicle to escape the village and reach safety. Who would have thought that in our search for life, we would lose a life?” said Mohammad Shafi, whose sister-in-law died in the shelling. “This cross-border firing has destroyed us—our well-being, our future.”

“We’ve witnessed such shelling since birth, but this time, we are terrified, disturbed, and utterly helpless,” he added. “For days, we’ve been trapped in this nightmare, wondering if we’ll live to see the next moment, the next dawn. There’s no difference between day and night here—every second is filled with fear. We look at each other’s faces, all asking the same question: Will we survive till morning? Will we see our children again?”

Tasveer Begum, the sister of the deceased, recounted the trauma: “We were screaming, crying, consumed by fear—a fear that will haunt us forever. We lost our sister, our family. Who will take care of her daughters? Who will care for her husband, an asthma patient? She was an Aaya worker, preparing midday meals for schoolchildren—how will her family survive now? How will her daughters move forward?”

“Please,” she begged, “don’t take away our happiness, our children’s future. We are innocent—we just want to live in peace.” Tasveer also appealed to the Modi-led government: “Do not forget my sister’s family. They have no one left to care for them.”

“How can dreams shatter at this age? How can I live without my mother? How?” Sanam (16), the youngest daughter of the deceased, sat in a dark corner, tears streaming down her face. “We left home for Baramulla, searching for safety—but before we could reach there, I lost my mother.”

Her voice trembled as she pleaded, “Please, bring my mother back…”

“Why are we being bombarded? What is our fault? Why are we always affected? We have dreams of becoming doctors, engineers, and responsible citizens who can represent Kashmir on national and international platforms. Please, stop this war on innocent souls and allow us to live in peace.”

Khitji Begum, a grieving relative, cried out in despair: “What has happened? One of her daughter’s was supposed to marry next month—who will prepare her as a bride now? This is devastation. We are helpless.”

Addressing Prime Minister Modi, she said, “Modi ji, whatever you’ve done, we stand with you—but please don’t leave us helpless even within our own families. How do we live without our loved ones? What is our fault?”

“We don’t live here anymore; we are filled with fear. Our hearts are terrified, and we don’t know what will happen in the next minute. We are affected, victimized, and helpless. We don’t want to lose our loved ones in this shelling and these bombings.”

“In our struggle to save our children, our parents, and our homes, we lost another sister last night—she died trying to protect her children,” said Aslam, a local resident.

“Fear has seeped into our veins. We’ve even forgotten how to eat—such is the terror that grips us.”

“We have full faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji—please save us from this horror. We are peace-loving Indians. We want to live. Please, don’t take away our happiness.”

“This cross-border shelling must stop now. We don’t want to suffer any longer. We have already lost generations, and we cannot bear to witness this destruction anymore.”

Pakistan has persistently shelled border regions in Uri and Kupwara in North Kashmir over the last several days.

On Thursday night, Pakistan launched missiles and drones aimed at border areas in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Punjab and Rajasthan. In a significant escalation of conflict, the Pakistani military initiated artillery fire on Thursday evening targeting Jammu, Pathankot in Punjab, and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan.

Indian air defense systems successfully neutralized all incoming drones and missiles. Further, Pakistani drones were intercepted by Indian air defense in Jaisalmer, with explosions and flashes reported in the sky.

This escalation follows India’s strike on nine terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the April 22 attack in Pahalgam that resulted in 26 fatalities. On May 7-8, India countered Pakistan’s attempt to target 15 Indian cities.

Meanwhile, authorities evacuated as many families as possible to Baramulla and its outskirts for their safety.

According to details available to The Web Story/The Varmul Post, around 50 families have been accommodated at Gurudwara Cheivi Patshai Baramulla.

Speaking to The Web Story/The Varmul Post, Paramjeet Singh, District President of Gurudwara Cheivi Patshai Baramulla, stated, “We stand with our fellow people who are going through this difficult phase. We have opened our Gurudwara for them, prioritizing their safety and well-being.”

He emphasized, “We are all brothers, and at this stage, we will not let our people down, no matter which groups they belong to. We are all standing tall.”

Earlier in the day, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the border town of Uri, where he met the injured residents at GMC Baramulla and prayed for their quick recovery.

LG Sinha stated that the nation is wholeheartedly behind the affected families in all aspects. He directed officials to provide the best possible treatment and care, adding, “We will avenge their suffering by defeating the enemy.”
