In a significant development for urban infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, Sopore constituency has been accorded special attention in the state’s budget for the fiscal year 2025-26.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah presented a Rs 1.12 lakh crore budget on Friday, emphasizing the revitalization of water supply and drainage systems under the AMRUT 2.0 project.

As part of the AMRUT 2.0 initiative, 49 water supply schemes, including major projects in Sopore, are set to be implemented. The project also includes GIS-based master planning aimed at enhancing urban development in municipal councils and the twin cities of Srinagar and Jammu.

This comprehensive approach will address not only water supply but also drainage systems, ensuring improved infrastructure and better living conditions for residents.

The announcement comes a day after Sopore MLA Irshad Rasool Kar raised critical concerns regarding the AMRUT 2.0 water scheme during the assembly session.

MLA Kar while reacting to the development said that the AMRUT 2.0 project is expected to bring transformative changes to Sopore, addressing long-standing issues related to water scarcity and drainage inefficiencies. With GIS-based planning, the initiative aims to modernize urban infrastructure, making it more sustainable and resilient.
