Srinagar, Feb 18: The higher reaches of Kashmir, including the Gulmarg ski resort, experienced fresh snowfall on Sunday, while rains lashed the plains.
Reports reaching The Web Story/The Varmul Post stated that fresh snowfall was received in Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Zojila, Karnah, Machil, Gurez, and almost all upper reaches of Kupwara.
There were also reports of fresh snowfall in some parts of the southern region of Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall/snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on 18 and 19 February.
In Jammu & Kashmir, the IMD has also predicted very heavy rainfall/snowfall at isolated places on 19 February and heavy rainfall/snowfall at isolated places on 18th and 20th February.
However, traffic movement on the Bhaderwah-Chamba road, Mughal road, and SSG road, as well as the Anantnag-Kishtwar road via Sinthan Pass, are closed due to snow accumulation.
Meanwhile, Station House Officer Panikar, in an information for the general public through The Web Story/The Varmul Post, said, “It is informed to the general public that all kinds of traffic moving towards Kargil to Zanskar have been stopped at Panikhar due to snowfall.”
He requested the public not to venture towards Zanskar until further road clearance is provided by the concerned authorities.
