With brand USWAH, Bilal Khan is representing India in Istanbul

Suhail Khan

SOPORE, Oct 30 : For Bilal Ahmed Khan, a successful career in Dubai ended with one heartbreaking phone call. His mother was ill. Without a second thought, he left everything behind and returned home to Sopore of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district his future suddenly uncertain.

That difficult decision, made for love, became the first step in an inspiring journey that is now dressing Kashmir in pride.

“My mother needed me. So, I came home. I lost my job, but I found my purpose,” Bilal told The Web Story /The Varmul Post in an interview.

“Back in my hometown of Sangrama, Sopore, times were hard. I took a local marketing job that paid only Rs 4,500 a month. But in my heart, a dream was growing.”

“I decided, along with my friends, to build something new—something born from our own Kashmiri identity. We started with one small shop.”

“The beginning was so tough. We had very little money and we worked day and night. But we never lost hope.”

“We found inspiration in Turkish modest wear and began blending it with the beautiful art of Kashmir. We weren’t just selling clothes; we were stitching our culture into every design.”

“Then, our big break came. A customer trusted us with a huge bridal order. I said ‘yes’ immediately, even though it was a huge risk. We had three months. We put our hearts into it, working without sleep.”

“When we delivered that beautiful order, it was a massive success he said in conversation with The Web Story/The Varmul Post. That was the moment our brand, USWAH, was truly born in the hearts of the people.”

“For me, the real success isn’t about shipping orders; it’s about building lives. In a place where jobs are scarce, we can give work to our own people. We have tailors, designers, and sales staff from our community. This is the best feeling.”

“This is a message to every young person in Kashmir. Your roots are your power. You can build a world-class brand without leaving your home, your values, or your mother’s side. This is for her, and for all of us.”

USWAH does more than dress its customers, it sustains them. “We provide crucial jobs,” Bilal stated, underscoring their role in a struggling Valley. “We are proud to offer opportunities where they are needed most.”

Now, this local brand is going global. USWAH, Kashmir’s modest fashion pride, has been invited to the international Modest Fashion and Art Trade Show in Istanbul (November 26-29, 2025).

It will stand among 300 top brands at the IFM Istanbul Expo Center—a powerful testament to its quality and vision, representing India on a world stage.
