New Delhi, Sep 13 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday projected BRICS as a collective bulwark against a world of cascading crises, announcing an integrated early warning system for infectious diseases and a logistics supply chain cooperation framework as the 18th BRICS Summit concluded at Bharat Mandapam here.

In his opening remarks at the BRICS Session on Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability on the second and final day, PM Modi welcomed leaders and members of the extended BRICS family, saying the gathering brought together “different continents, cultures and development journeys under one roof,” reflecting the grouping’s growing strength, global appeal and unprecedented trust.

The Prime Minister said India’s presidency had focused on four key pillars — Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability — and expressed satisfaction that, with the cooperation and support of all member countries, the shared vision had been translated into mutually beneficial cooperation.

PM Modi struck a note of urgency on the global outlook, saying tensions around the world are “continuously increasing” and are having a widespread and deeply negative impact on the lives of ordinary people.

He said pandemics, climate-related disasters and disruptions in supply chains had demonstrated that in today’s interconnected world, “no crisis remains confined to a single region” — a reality, he added, that had prompted India to place special emphasis on strengthening resilience within BRICS.

Stressing the importance of identifying challenges in advance, preparing for them and taking timely action, PM Modi announced that under this approach an integrated BRICS early warning system has been agreed upon to strengthen the prevention of and response to infectious diseases.

Guidelines have also been prepared for the integration of early-warning data for disaster management, he said.

The Prime Minister further highlighted the BRICS Logistics Supply Chain Cooperation Framework, saying it would help make supply chains more reliable, resilient and better equipped to withstand future disruptions.
