Budgam : A Kashmir-based textile-care venture has opened its sixth outlet in the Valley, expanding its operations to Magam in Budgam district.
Dr GoodDay LuxCare Studio, founded by medical professional-turned-entrepreneur Dr Salma Nabi, inaugurated its new outlet at Agrikalan Magam on Friday. The facility was inaugurated by Kashmiri writer Adfar Ghulam Nabi and Ghulam Din Khan in the presence of guests and well-wishers.
Established in 2025, the venture provides laundry, dry-cleaning and specialised textile-care services, particularly for traditional Kashmiri garments and fabrics.
An MBBS-qualified doctor, Nabi spent nearly two years researching modern textile-care techniques before venturing into the business. She also visited facilities in Pune, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi to study modern machinery, cleaning methods and industry practices.
The company started operations with its first outlet at Chanapora in August 2025 but had to temporarily shut down following legal and personal challenges. It resumed operations in November 2025 and subsequently expanded to six outlets across Kashmir.
The venture specialises in cleaning and maintaining traditional Kashmiri textiles, including Pashmina shawls, Sozni embroidery, Tilla work, Aari embroidery, Crewel work, Namda, Gabba and handwoven carpets.
It said fabric-specific cleaning techniques were being used to preserve the texture, colour and quality of delicate garments and intricate embroidery.
“I wanted to address a real gap in Kashmir by combining textile science, modern technology and our traditional knowledge of fabrics. Our Pashmina, Sozni, Tilla, Namda and handwoven carpets are part of our identity. They deserve specialised care,” Nabi said.
The studio also offers bridal-wear cleaning, leather bag and shoe treatment, carpet and rug cleaning, sofa and upholstery care, curtain, blanket and quilt cleaning, steam ironing and on-site ironing services for weddings and other events.
Operating under the slogan “No to Bleach. No to Petrol. Yes to Science-Led Textile Care”, the company said it aims to promote modern cleaning techniques while reducing the use of harsh chemicals wherever appropriate.
Apart from expanding its commercial operations, the venture aims to generate employment, develop professional skills and encourage women’s participation in the organised service sector.
Nabi said the objective was to establish a sustainable Kashmiri brand that combines modern technology with the region’s traditional craftsmanship and textile heritage.
