Shopian — In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, Police in Shopian recovered illicit kerosene and diesel in the jurisdiction of Police Station Keller and arrested accused person involved in the commission of crime.

Acting on a specific information about selling of kerosene oil in black market at Karlcheck Berthipora area of Shopian. A police party headed by SHO Police Station Keller and Incharge Berthipora along with Executive Magistrate conducted search in the shop of one person namely Showkat Ahmad Hajam son of Ab Gani Hajam resident of Karlcheck Berthipora. During search, police party recovered 11 barrels containing 1600 ltrs of kerosene oil and 600 ltrs of diesel from the said shop. The accused person involved in the commission of crime has been arrested.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 02/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Keller and investigation has been initiated. Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused was selling the Kerosene oil illegally in black market. Source of procurement of subsidised kerosene oil is being investigated and the officials involved in facilitating black marketing shall also be dealt as per law.
