Srinagar, Oct 28: A public rift within the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) deepened as senior leader and MLA Ananthnag West Abdul Majeed Larmi issued a sharp rebuke to fellow party member and MP, Syed Aga Ruhullah, amid the latter’s criticisms of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Larmi directly challenged the MP, stating that if Ruhullah believes the Chief Minister has failed, he should resign from the parliamentary seat he won on the party’s ticket.
Speaking Exclusively with The Web Story/The Varmul Post, Larmi defended the government’s pace, stating, “The promises made by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led government are for a five-year term. We have only completed one year and remain fully committed to our pledges. We are confident that over the next four years, we will fulfill the expectations of the people.”
He sharply criticized Ruhullah’s method of airing grievances, asserting that internal party channels were the appropriate forum. “Instead of making public statements, he should have discussed his concerns directly with the Chief Minister,” Larmi said. “The fact that he chose not to do so and is instead criticizing the party publicly is unacceptable. He should resign from both the party and his seat, contest a fresh election, and then let the public judge.”
Larmi also contextualized the government’s challenges, pointing to Jammu and Kashmir’s status as a Union Territory. “Is he not aware of the constrained framework within which we are operating?” Larmi asked. “The Chief Minister is tirelessly advocating for the rights of our people amidst significant challenges. We are all fighting for them.”
He further said, “The public will be the ultimate judge of our performance after our full term. If we fail to deliver, they will decide whether the National Conference deserves their support in the future.”
