Congress leader and Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi on Sunday stated that the security situation in Jammu & Kashmir has not improved given the targeted killings and bomb blasts in the Union Territory. He was addressing a press conference in Taj Vivanta Hotel in Srinagar, where he expressed his sadness at the current state of the region.
Gandhi as per Web Story stated that the restoration of democratic process and statehood is a fundamental right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He further added that the purpose of the Yatra was to spread love amid the hatred being spread by BJP and RSS across the country.
During the Yatra, Gandhi said people raised two important issues which included unemployment and price hike. He also added that this yatra was not just for the Congress party, but for party leaders who walked most in it.
Gandhi stated that he met many people in Jammu, Ladakh, and Kashmir and nobody was happy. He also said that he was not happy with what he saw in J&K and felt saddened when he walked through the region.
When asked about the abrogation of Article and its restoration, Gandhi referred to the party’s working committee document where their position was cleared. He also said that the argument of improvement in security situation does not hold true given the current scenario of targetted killings and bomb blasts.
Regarding land laws, Gandhi stated that he has already spoken about the issue and the elected government can take a decision accordingly. He concluded by saying that this yatra was a first step towards creating an alternative vision for the people and that more active measures will be taken in the future.
