Describes Ruhullah as a politician who stood by his principles; claims NC invoking Article 370 to divert attention from electoral commitments
Sopore, Nov 7 : Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) State President Vivek Bali on Saturday praised National Conference MP Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi for his stand against the party leadership, describing him as a courageous politician who prioritised principles over political position.
“We have seen many politicians, but none like Agha Ruhullah,” Bali told reporters on the sidelines of an organisational meeting in Dangarpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
He said Ruhullah had demonstrated the courage to stand by his convictions despite differences with his party leadership.
“Even a Sarpanch may hesitate to leave his position, but Ruhullah has shown the courage to take a stand,” Bali said.
The SBSP leader also launched a sharp attack on the ruling National Conference, accusing it of failing to fulfil promises made in its election manifesto, including the provision of free LPG cylinders and 200 units of free electricity.
Targeting NC president Farooq Abdullah, Bali alleged that the party was raising the issue of Article 370 to divert public attention from its unfulfilled electoral commitments.
He claimed that restoration of Article 370 was not possible and accused the NC leadership of misleading people on the issue.
Bali also questioned the party’s protests, alleging that its focus had shifted towards the restoration of statehood rather than Article 370.
His remarks come amid a political disagreement between Ruhullah and the NC leadership over the party’s approach towards key political issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, the SBSP held an organisational meeting at Dangarpora to strengthen its presence in Sopore. The party claimed that dozens of workers from different political parties joined its ranks during the programme.
Bali said the party was committed to expanding its organisational base and working for public welfare and development.
The meeting was attended by Political Advisor Dilawar Singh, Provisional District President Baramulla Mohammad Ramzan Ganie, Mohammad Ashraf Lone, Ghulam Nabi Najar, Habibul Rather and other party functionaries.
Meanwhile, an SBSP delegation visited the residence of Adnan Rather, an MBBS student who died in Bangladesh, and expressed condolences to his bereaved family.
The delegation conveyed its sympathies and urged the Government of India to facilitate the early repatriation of the student’s mortal remains to his native place to enable the family to perform his last rites.
