New Delhi, Oct 21 ; Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said significant success had been achieved in curbing terrorism in Kashmir, asserting that peace had been established in the region and an environment conducive to development had emerged.
Addressing the Police Commemoration Day event at the National Police Memorial here, Amit Shah said Kashmir, the Northeast and areas affected by Left-Wing Extremism had witnessed improvements in the security situation and were now ready to compete with the rest of the country in development.
“Peace has now been established in all three major hotspots — Kashmir, the Northeast and the areas affected by Left-Wing Extremism,” he said.
Amir Shah said an environment conducive to development had emerged in these regions, which were now prepared to compete with the rest of the country in terms of development.
The Home Minister’s remarks on Kashmir came amid continued efforts by security agencies to counter terrorism and dismantle networks supporting militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
Union home minister also stressed the need for a coordinated nationwide campaign against narcotics, saying drug abuse threatened future generations and provided financial support to organisations involved in anti-national activities.
He urged police forces across the country to work towards the goal of making India drug-free by December 31, 2029, a deadline set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Home Minister said the remaining months of 2026 and the subsequent three years would be devoted to a united fight against drugs.
Amit Shah also paid tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty at the annual Police Commemoration Day event.
The day is observed on October 21 in memory of 10 police personnel killed in an ambush by heavily armed Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh in 1959.
