Sopore: Following a successful football tournament under floodlights in the summer, hundreds of sports fans were seen on Thursday in Sopore shouting, chanting, and whistling in the Sultan Memorial Football Championship, which was arranged by the police.
The Sultan Memorial Football Championship’s final game between SL Academy FC and Wular FC was played at the Khushaal Sports Stadium despite the bitter cold of winter in which SL Academy FC registered victory in a penalty shootout. SL Academy won the match by 4:3.
During the closing ceremony, SSP Sopore spoke with local athletes and sports enthusiasts and told them that the District Police Sopore will offer every type of support to encourage athletic endeavours.
He said the police will do their best to provide a platform for the talented youth in order to prove their skills and their bright future in the sports field.
SSP Sopore said that police are trying their best to channel youths’ energy in a positive manner.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a function, Commanding Officer 179 BN Rabish Kumar Singh said that we lost enough time during the COVID pandemic, and the past two years have been devoid of any sporting events.
“Watching such gifted young athletes in action certainly increases our enthusiasm to continue holding such sporting events,” he added.
He expressed his excitement at the prospect of seeing such talented young people represent Kashmir at a national level.
Industrial President Sopore Javeed Ahmad Bhat appealed to the LG administration to assist them in reviving sports activities in Sopore and to develop sports facilities so that an increasing number of young people would participate in the activities.
