Two young female friends from Sopore town in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district have found hope and encouragement in the art of calligraphy and stressed that girls no longer have to confine themselves to the boundaries of their homes. Instead, they can engage in meaningful work and earn a livelihood from the comfort of their own homes.

Ansareen Majeed and Zahida Manzoor have a strong conviction that calligraphy has the potential to revolutionise the professional lives of women who opt to work from home. Their belief stems from the understanding that, despite their education, calligraphy offers not only a source of income but also a pathway to establishing rewarding careers. They recognise the power of this art form to empower women, enabling them to create a livelihood while maintaining the comfort and flexibility of working from home.

In an interview with The Web Story, Ansareen and Zahida said that any form of art has the potential to open up avenues for financial independence, allowing individuals to create their own platforms for earning and professional growth. They said that there is growing recognition of calligraphy, with many schools in Kashmir now hiring artists to teach and showcase this traditional skill. This positive trend offers hope and opportunities for women who wish to explore their artistic talents and contribute to their own financial well-being.

The talented duo further talked about the inspiring achievements of calligraphers across Kashmir who have made a name for themselves not only within the country but also in the international market.

These two Sopore friends are keen on exploring not just traditional Arabic calligraphy but also modern calligraphy fonts. By embracing contemporary styles, they aim to differentiate themselves from others in the field and carve a niche for their unique artistic expression.

Their passion for this timeless art form serves as a gateway to a promising future characterised by creativity, empowerment, and self-sufficiency.
