Sopore, Oct 12 : Residents of Green Town ‘B’ here on Monday staged a peaceful protest outside the Jal Shakti Department office, alleging they have been deprived of regular drinking water supply fo several years, locals said.
The protesters, including women and elderly residents, raised slogans and demanded immediate redressal of their long-pending grievance, urging the authorities to ensure a regular supply of safe drinking water to the locality.
They alleged that despite repeated representations to the department, no corrective measures have been taken so far, forcing them to depend on alternate sources of water.
“We have been suffering for years. Despite numerous complaints, nothing has changed on the ground,” a resident told The Web Story/The Varmul Post.
The agitators warned that they would be constrained to intensify their protest if their demands are not met at the earliest.
Speaking to The Web Story/The Varmul Post, a senior official of the Jal Shakti Department, Sopore, acknowledged that the area is facing a water crisis. However, the official stated that no existing supply line currently covers the area. The officer assured that the department is working on a new supply line that will also cover this area, and expressed hope that the new supply line will become functional within six months.
