Kupwara, Dec 16 : Karnah villages in the northern region of Kashmir have received portable tap water for the first time, thanks to the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) Scheme initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The villages of Batlan, Chambra, and Darya, which had previously struggled with water scarcity, are now celebrating the availability of tap water.
Talking to The Web Story, the residents said we are really thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership and the launch of the JJM Scheme. They said through this scheme, border residents will be able to have portable water at their homes.
Sajad, a local resident of Batlan, while talking to The Web Story expressed his overwhelming joy and described the development as a dream come true, he said its almost feeling like a magical occurrence. He attributed this remarkable achievement to none other than our Prime Minister, MoDiji, giving him all the credit.
Sajad said how MoDiji’s relentless commitment and his profound ability to resonate with the struggles of the marginalized played a pivotal role in realizing this long-awaited aspiration.
He said the residents of Batlan are filled with a sense of delight, and are savoring this extraordinary moment. Sajad said that it took us a decade long time to finally cherish this moment of happiness.
Aza Begum, an elderly woman in a conversation with The Web Story, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and LG Manoj Sinha.
She mentioned that in the past, women like herself had to endure difficult journeys of 2–3 kilometers in order to fetch water.
She said that the journeys were fraught with challenges, including tough terrain and harsh weather conditions. However, thanks to the efforts made through the current scheme, it will become a real relief for us.
Azra further said that this initiative will help us overcome the long-standing pain that we have experienced.
Meanwhile, The villagers expressed their gratitude towards Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Sudan and the Kupwara district administration for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the completion of this life-changing project.
The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) is a flagship program of the Government of India, launched on August 15, 2019, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
