Dreams of Becoming IAS Officer and Meeting PM Modi

Mohammad Yaseen

Baramulla,Jan 29 : Meet Majid Khaliq Bhat, a specially abled boy who recently qualified the 8th standard exam with the first position in his district. Despite being visually impaired, Majid has big dreams of becoming an IAS officer and wishes to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Majid, a resident of Tilgam, a small village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, faced numerous challenges but managed to top his district in the 8th standard exam.

In an interview with The Web Story/The Varmul Post, Majid expressed his hope of inspiring others through his journey of resilience and determination.

Majid said, “I may be visually impaired, but that doesn’t define me. I am determined to work hard and not be a burden for my family or society. Knowledge and awareness have opened my eyes to a world of possibilities, and I want to use my education to uplift and serve other blind individuals.”

He added, “With the unwavering support of my family and the guidance of Chief Education Officer Balbir Singh and the teachers at Blind School Baramulla, I am able to pursue my dreams.”

“I refuse to let my visual impairment impede my pursuit of knowledge. Through recording lectures and converting study material into Braille, I am able to overcome the challenges that come with being visually impaired. Learning and qualifying exams may be more difficult for us, but with the incredible support and efforts of the teachers at Blind School Baramulla, I was able to master Braille in just 15 days. This journey has taught me that with determination and a little extra support, there are no limits to what I can achieve,” he said.

Majid’s parents, despite facing financial constraints, have always prioritized his education. His father, a daily-wage laborer, along with his three brothers and visually challenged younger sister, have been pillars of support throughout his journey. Majid’s exceptional performance in the 8th standard exam, scoring 481 out of 500, brought immense joy to his family. To celebrate this achievement, they distributed sweets in their locality, sharing their happiness with the community around them.

“One of the greatest challenges I face during examinations is finding someone to assist me in writing my answer books. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of allowing blind students like myself to write in Braille. Not only would it make studying easier and more pleasant for us, but it would also ensure that we have equal access to education like any other student,” he added.

“I have a strong desire to connect with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to share my experiences and insights,” Majid further added.(WS/VP)
