Sopore, Oct 04: Zaingeer also known as Spring Village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has become a noteworthy locale due to its remarkable collection of approximately 14 springs.
In the northern region of Kashmir where many springs have faced closure due to increased commercial activities, Zaingeer stands out for maintaining these vital water sources.
Historically, nearly every village in Kashmir boasted its own spring, but these have become increasingly scarce.
Zaingeer, however, has successfully preserved its heritage through traditional water conservation practices, ensuring a sustainable water supply throughout the year.
Research by The Web Story reveals that Zaingeer possesses 14 springs within its belt. These springs not only cater to the water needs of local communities but also play a pivotal role in supporting various economic activities. In times of low pressure or disruption in government water supply, these springs become crucial for villagers.
Key villages in the Zaingeer belt, such as Mundji, Shiva, Watlab, Harwan, Rampur, Zaloora, and Watlabghat, continue to rely on these springs for both sustenance and economic purposes.
Their dependence highlights the tangible benefits of preserving natural resources.
Abdul Hamid from Shiva emphasized that these springs provide clean water to locals and urged efforts to keep water resources free from plastic pollution.
He commended Zaingeer for protecting its springs and ensuring they remain uncontaminated.
Amid global environmental challenges, Zaingeer serves as an example of harmonizing with nature and using resources responsibly.
