Srinagar, Oct 29: The Minister for Social Welfare, School Education, Higher Education, and Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, announced the approval of 575 (+2) lecturer positions across various streams in the School Education Department. The minister highlighted this initiative as part of the commitment made by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to provide job opportunities for unemployed youth in the region.
In her post on the micro-blogging site X, Minister Itoo as per The Web Story/The Varmul Post stated, “We have begun to fulfill the promise of Hon’ble CM Jb @OmarAbdullah Sb regarding providing jobs to unemployed youth of J&K. I have approved the advertisement for 575 (+2) lecturer positions in the School Education Department, and these posts are being referred to the JKPSC.”
This announcement comes at a crucial time as Kashmir faces an unemployment crisis, with approximately 2.5 million young people seeking jobs.
Recent statistics highlight an alarming unemployment rate of 24.6% in Jammu and Kashmir, significantly higher than the national average of 6.1%. This troubling figure translates to more than 1 million educated young individuals in the region struggling to find employment. The challenges have been exacerbated by decades of political instability, militancy, and economic stagnation.
The approval for these new lecturer positions signals a proactive step However, only time will tell if these posts will truly provide employment opportunities for the educated youth in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir after their release, or if, like before, these posts will remain limited.
