The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Jammu and Kashmir has successfully trapped and arrested BDC member Gowhar Ahmad Reshi for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.

The arrest came after a complainant approached the ACB with a written complaint against Majid Aziz, District Mineral Officer Ganderbal, and Gowhar Ahmad Reshi, alleging their demand for a bribe in exchange for an issuance of a disposal permit.

The complainant, an authorized material supplier, had completed all procedural formalities but experienced delays in receiving the necessary permit from DMO Ganderbal. Upon approaching Majid Aziz, the complainant was instructed to visit Gowhar Ahmad and fulfill any demands made by him. Gowhar Ahmad then demanded a bribe of ₹50,000 for the issuance of the document, of which ₹10,000 was to be paid in advance.

Refusing to participate in bribery, the complainant reported the incident to the ACB, who promptly registered a case (FIR No. 01/2024) under U/S 7 PC Act 1988 at PS ACB Srinagar and initiated an investigation. A trap team was formed, and they successfully caught Gowhar Ahmad red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of ₹10,000. The recovered money was seized from the accused on the spot.

Gowhar Ahmad Reshi, son of Sonaullah Reshi from Safapora Ganderbal, has been identified as the arrested BDC member. The role of DMO Majid Aziz is also under investigation in connection with the case.

The ACB J&K encourages individuals not to engage in bribery with public servants and urges anyone facing similar demands to report to the ACB. The investigation into this case is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as necessary.
