BARAMULLA, Feb 15: The Indian Army’s Dagger Division hosted the second edition of ‘Shaan-e-Varmul’ here on Saturday, an initiative to recognise the contributions of unsung heroes from the district.

The event, held at the Thimayya Hall, saw the felicitation of twenty civilians for their work in fields such as education, environment, sports, medicine, innovation, and social service.

Officials stated that the awardees were chosen by the local population following a three-month awareness campaign. The drive utilised FM radio, social media, and print advertisements to gather recommendations from residents across Baramulla.

Among those honoured were 10-year-old Mohammed Sayeed Bhat and 66-year-old Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmed. In a special recognition, the late Arjumand Majeed was posthumously honoured for his social service, with his wife receiving the award on his behalf.

Maj Gen Manoj Joshi, VSM, GOC Dagger Division, presided over the ceremony as the Chief Guest. The event was attended by over 300 locals and included a cultural performance by area youth.

According to a statement from the Army, the programme aims to foster community bonding and create role models at the grassroots level, aligning with the broader vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’.
