Mohammad Yousuf (44), a resident of old town Baramulla in north Kashmir has been running a thriving business selling masala chat for the past four decades. Despite facing hardships from a young age, Yousuf remained determined to make a living for himself and his family.
In an exclusive interview with The Web Story, Yousuf shared his inspiring journey. “Ever since I was a child, I have been involved in this line of work,” he said. Tragically, Yousuf lost his father at a tender age and was unable to pursue his education due to his family’s financial constraints. Determined to overcome adversity, he decided to enter the masala chat business.
“Instead of dwelling on the limited opportunities available to me, I chose this work as a means of survival,” Yousuf explained. He emphasized that no job should be considered inferior if it provides for one’s livelihood. Yousuf expressed his gratitude to the Almighty for the success he has achieved over the years.
Yousuf’s dedication to his craft has paid off. Today, his elder son has also joined the business, and they operate four trolleys in the district. One of their prominent locations is the GMC College road, where visitors from Kashmir and different parts of the country have had the opportunity to savor their delectable masala chat.
Reflecting on his humble beginnings, Yousuf shared his story as an inspiration to others. “When I first started this venture, I had a mere 60 Rs in my pocket,” he said. Through unwavering dedication, hard work, and relentless efforts, Yousuf managed to elevate his family’s standard of living. Today, they enjoy possessions and opportunities similar to families from more privileged backgrounds.
Yousuf in a message of encouragement, especially for the youth urged them never to lose heart and emphasized that hard work always yields fruitful results. “Believe in the power of hard work, and success will follow,” he said.
