Bandipora, Jan, 26: Braving the bone-chilling cold at minus 39 °C, the Army jawans posted at various places along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir celebrated the 74th Republic Day on Thursday with great fervour.
Despite the extremely cold weather, jawans from various companies of the Indian Army hoisted the Tricolour above their posts along the Line of Control in Kashmir.
Reports reaching The Web Story said that Republic Day was celebrated by Army units with great enthusiasm and traditional fervour at LOC Gurez in the Bandipora district of North Kashmir.
The temperature usually dips to minus 20 to minus 25 degrees in LOC Gurez sector in Kashmir, as heights range from 1,200 feet to 14,000 feet above sea level and the quantity of snow accumulated at many places ranges from 7 to 8 feet.
Despite the bone-chilling cold, the Army personnel at the LoC hoisted the tricolour during the Republic Day celebrations.
In spite of the extreme cold, army jawans could be seen in a video celebrating Republic Day and raising the flag along the Line of Control in Gurez Bandipora.
Locals in Gurez said that in these extreme weather conditions, survival and performing duties at the LoC for soldiers are equally challenging.
They said that despite all these odds, soldiers not only perform their duties but also give befitting responses to the enemies while saving the entire country.
“We salute them,” the locals said.
The army and locals also celebrated Republic Day in the villages of Buglinder, Neeru, and other villages of the Gurez valley.
“The locals hailed the efforts of Indian Army jawans for performing their duties in bone-chilling cold and saving the entire country,” said Abdul Ahad, a local resident of Buglinder Valley.
