Hyderabad, 22 Feb: Dr Abdul Majid, a distinguished Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry has been honoured with an international Fellowship by the Indo-Global Psychiatric Initiative (IGPI). The prestigious accolade, conferred on the sidelines of the Annual National Conference of the Indian Psychiatric Society (ANCIPS) 2025 held in Hyderabad, recognizes Dr. Majid’s exceptional contributions to world psychiatry and the promotion of positive mental health. The Fellowship was presented by Dr. Russel Desouza, President of IGPI, based in Melbourne, Australia.

The recognition places Dr. Majid among an elite group of global mental health professionals who have made significant strides in advancing psychiatry. Other recipients of this esteemed Fellowship include reputed mental health professionals of Indian origin residing in the USA, Canada, the UK, and Australia.

Dr. Abdul Majid’s illustrious career is marked by numerous accolades and achievements. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, Edinburgh, and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. In addition, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Geriatric Mental Health and holds key positions such as Honorary Secretary General of the Indian Association of Biological Psychiatry and Executive Council Member of the Indian Psychiatric Society.

Dr. Majid’s contributions extend beyond academia and clinical practice. He has played a pivotal role in establishing the Advanced Centre for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment at the Department of Psychiatry, SKIMS Medical College, JVC Bemina, Srinagar. This state-of-the-art facility has become a cornerstone for mental health and addiction treatment in the region, offering advanced care to patients while fostering groundbreaking research and education.

Beyond his institutional contributions, Dr. Majid is deeply involved in community outreach programs aimed at promoting positive mental health and well-being. His initiatives include conducting awareness campaigns, facilitating mental health workshops, and spearheading research activities at local and national levels. His work has been instrumental in bridging the gap between mental health care services and underserved communities, ensuring that mental health is prioritized in public health discourse.
