Srinagar, Oct 16: Sheikh Abdul Rashid, the Parliamentarian from North Kashmir and chief of the Awami Itehad Party (AIP), popularly known as Er Rashid, has expressed his intention to pray for Omar Abdullah’s success in fulfilling the promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a chat with The Web Story/The Varmul Post, MP Er Rashid, following his participation in an oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected government after the abrogation of Article 370, stated that as long as Omar Abdullah serves effectively as Chief Minister, the AIP will extend its support to him. However, he cautioned that if Abdullah’s actions are perceived to contradict the sentiments of the people, the AIP will not hesitate to oppose him.
When asked about the AIP contesting 32 seats in the Assembly elections but securing only one victory, Er Rashid remarked that over the past 11 years, he has proven to be a strong contender, a fact underscored by his imprisonment in Tihar Jail.
He asserted that the AIP has a people’s agenda and emphasized that public support remains with them. He expressed optimism that one day the AIP will effectively represent the voice of Jammu and Kashmir in both the Assembly and Parliament.
