Srinagar, Oct 26 : Ahead of the anticipated cabinet reshuffle and expansion in Jammu and Kashmir, senior National Conference leaders convened an emergency meeting at the Church Lane residence of Minister Javed Dar in Srinagar on Monday, top sources told The Web Story/The Varmul Post.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary and Rajya Sabha MP Shami Oberoi, is also being attended by senior leaders Satish Sharma and Javed Raina, sources said.
The sudden gathering assumes significance as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is likely to take a final call on the resignations of his five cabinet colleagues ahead of Tuesday’s scheduled swearing-in ceremony.
Top sources told The Web Story/The Varmul Post that the meeting was convened amid ongoing developments surrounding the proposed changes in the Council of Ministers. However, the specific agenda of the discussions could not be immediately ascertained.
The meeting comes on a day when the political fate of the five sitting ministers is expected to be decided, with the Chief Minister likely to accept the resignations of those to be dropped and reject those of ministers who will continue.
The Omar Abdullah-led Council of Ministers currently has six members, including the Chief Minister, against the permitted strength of nine, leaving three berths vacant.
The proposed expansion is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:30 am at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar.
