Mission Partially Done’— Full Justice in Operation ‘Sindoor’ Awaits Killers’ End

Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated that the region is in an unexpected situation—one marked by bloodshed, suffering, turmoil, and upheaval. “We are in a place where everything has changed, and yet, in some ways, nothing has changed,” he remarked.
Speaking to the national media, CM Omar, as per The Web Story/The Varmul Post, elaborated that while the region should ideally be bustling with tourists, a booming economy, and normalcy—with children in schools and airports operating 50-60 flights daily—the reality is starkly different. “The valley is empty, schools have been closed, the airport is shut, and airspace remains restricted,” he said. He noted that Pakistan has, unfortunately, once again succeeded in internationalizing the Jammu and Kashmir issue. “The US appears eager to insert itself as a mediator. The ceasefire, which had held until recently despite other bilateral tensions. “We are yet to see what the coming days will bring—which is why I say so much has changed, yet so little has changed.”
Pahalgam Massacre and Its Aftermath
CM Omar stated that the Pahalgam massacre has worsened the perception of Jammu and Kashmir. “This was a region where tourism thrived, not just in numbers but in value, with high-spending tourists willing to pay lakhs for a single night’s stay. Today, that sector of our economy lies in tatters, and we don’t know how long it will take to rebuild.”
He expressed concern over the economic fallout, particularly for those dependent on tourism. “Hotels, restaurants, and shops have disengaged workers. Many took loans to buy taxis, upgrade properties, or convert homes into guest stays—all of which now adds to financial strain. If tourism doesn’t recover soon, these individuals, who previously weren’t seeking government jobs, will be forced to do so—a sector already facing shortages. The long-term impact of Pahalgam will be felt for years.”
A Silver Lining Amid the Darkness
Despite the tragedy, CM Omar highlighted a rare positive development: widespread public outrage against terrorism. “After the Pahalgam attack, people across the Union Territory—from Kuthua to Kupwara—spontaneously organized peace marches condemning terror. This was not orchestrated by the government; it was a genuine public response. Such unified resistance against terrorism hasn’t been seen in 35 years.”
He called it a unique opportunity for both the state and central governments to foster peace. “It would be a tragedy if we fail to build on this momentum. The last few days have been devastating, but if the ceasefire holds and calm prevails, we can work toward recovery.”
Operation ‘Sindoor’ and Justice
On Operation ‘Sindoor,’ CM Omar said, “The immediate objective has been met, but justice will only be served when the perpetrators—those who pulled the trigger—are eliminated.”
Ceasefire: What Next?
Regarding the future, CM Omar emphasized the need to first assess the ceasefire’s stability. “If the Line of Control, borders, and cities like Jammu and Srinagar remain calm, we can reopen airspace, airports, and schools—our immediate priorities. Then, we must rebuild damaged homes, ensure proper medical care for the injured, and mitigate the economic impact on Jammu and Kashmir.”
He acknowledged lingering security risks, citing the April 26 attack as a reminder that major terror threats persist. “The elected government and security agencies must work in unison—not at cross purposes. From my side, I assure full cooperation to restore peace, prosperity, and development in Jammu and Kashmir.”
