Handwara, Dec 25: In a first, doctors at Associated District Hospital GMC Handwara performed the insertion of a dual-chamber pacemaker in a 65-year-old female patient.

An official told The Web Story that the first pacemaker implant (dual chamber) was done on Monday at Associated Hospital GMC Handwara.

He said an elderly female, approximately 65 years old, was admitted to Associated District Hospital GMC Handwara with multiple episodes of syncope. Holter monitoring suggested tachybrady syndrome with multiple pauses lasting more than three seconds.

The official stated that the treatment was provided under the ABPMJAY (Sehat scheme) free of cost, and the patient is recovering well.

Pertinently, earlier this year, District Hospital Handwara achieved acclaim by successfully carrying out the first thrombolysis on a patient with a stroke at the health institution.

The hospital has also performed some major surgeries in the recent past that were never conducted by any other district hospitals across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
