Says NC to Present New Constitution After Approval
Srinagar, Oct 5 : National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court’s notice concerning decisions taken by an Election Commissioner, saying he was “very happy” that the apex court had taken cognisance of the matter.
“I am very happy that the Supreme Court has taken cognisance of this,” Dr Farooq Abdullah said.
His remarks came after a party meeting, which he said was convened to strengthen the organisation and identify shortcomings that needed to be addressed. “The meeting was held to strengthen the party,” he said, adding that discussions were held with Srinagar’s eight MLAs, ward presidents and other party workers. “We spoke to them about the shortcomings that need to be addressed,” Abdullah said.
On the party’s new constitution, he said it would be presented to the public only after completing the necessary internal procedures. “First, we will place it before our working committee. After it is approved, the process will move forward,” he said.
The NC’s twin focus — organisational revamp and engagement with the legal proceedings concerning the poll panel — comes amid heightened political activity in Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
