Baramulla, Oct 5 : A National Conference MLA on Monday asked the PDP to make its position clear on a “rather revealing” statement made by a PDP-backed questioner to NC president Farooq Abdullah, saying the remarks concern Jammu and Kashmir’s history and its accession to India and cannot be left “deliberately ambiguous”.
National Conference leader and Baramulla MLA Javid Hassan Baigh as per The Web Story/The Varmul Post said the questioner first asked Dr Farooq Abdullah whether he regretted the conversion of the Muslim Conference into the National Conference, and then stated that “the choice of the Qibla was wrong”.
In a long post on social media, MLA Baigh as per The Web Story/The Varmul Post said the remark, in the context of the discussion, “raises a serious question about what he was implying regarding the decision of Maharaja Hari Singh to accede to India.”
“These are not ordinary political remarks. They touch upon the history of Jammu & Kashmir, the evolution of the National Conference, and the circumstances surrounding the accession of the State to India,” he said.
“Therefore, PDP must come clean,” Baigh said, posing a direct question: “Does the party endorse this statement?”
He said if the PDP endorses it, “PDP should have the courage to own it openly and explain its position to the people”, and if not, “then the statement should be unequivocally condemned and appropriate action taken against the person who made it”.
MLA Baigh said that after yesterday’s ‘Halla Bol’ discussion, the issue “cannot simply be brushed aside or left deliberately ambiguous”.
Asserting that there should be “no double standards, no political ambiguity and no selective outrage” on questions concerning the history and constitutional relationship of Jammu and Kashmir with India, he demanded that the PDP clearly state whether it stands by the statement or rejects it.
