Srinagar, Jan 09 : The Government of Jammu and Kashmir is implementing a strategic reassignment of police officers in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections sources said.
Official sources told The Web Story that this reshuffle aims to position officers strategically in anticipation of the Model Code of Conduct being enforced in February.
Reliable sources have provided key insights into the impending changes.
The Police Headquarters has developed a comprehensive proposal and submitted it to the Home Department for a final decision.
The reshuffle is considered crucial to efficiently align the police force before the Model Code of Conduct takes effect.
The scope of the reshuffle includes officers of various ranks, such as Deputy Inspectors General, Senior Superintendents of Police, Superintendents of Police, Deputy Superintendents of Police, and Inspectors.
Even officers serving in their home districts may be relocated as per reliable sources.
Presently, the Jammu and Kashmir police have 28 DIG rank officers, with nine on deputation and the remaining 19 posted across the Union Territory.
Sources further added that the proposed transfers are expected to impact officers in important positions, leading to a significant reshuffle at both the inter-district and Range levels.
The changes are also likely to have an effect on the Range level across Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
The four ranges in Jammu division and three in Kashmir may experience a ripple effect, potentially relieving some DIGs from additional charges and reshaping the landscape of SSP rank officers sources added.
This initiative follows a recent major reshuffle in the top levels of the Jammu and Kashmir administration, demonstrating a comprehensive effort to streamline and optimize key governmental components.
