Srinagar, October 07: The decision regarding the nomination of five members to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will be made immediately after the results of the assembly elections are announced on October 8 sources said.

In line with the directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Lieutenant Governor (LG) will nominate two Kashmiri Pandits, one representative from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), and two women to the assembly.

Sources said that these five members will play a crucial role in the formation of the government in Jammu and Kashmir. The majority mark in the 90-member assembly will rise to 48 with the inclusion of these nominees.

The union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has total 90 seats, comprising 47 seats in the Kashmir region and 43 in Jammu.

According to sources, the Ministry of Home Affairs is set to recommend the names of five Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir immediately after the election results are declared. The Lieutenant Governor will then exercise their powers to nominate these five individuals to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
