Shiekh Tariq

Baramulla, Dec 28 : A 45-year-old man was successfully saved after being trapped for nine hours in a deep well in Tangmarg village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.

An official told The Web Story that the incident occurred when an 45-year-old man identified as Bashir Ahmed Rather, slipped into the well at around 11 am.

Following an urgent distress call, a team comprising the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), J&K Police, and local residents worked tirelessly to free Rather from the perilous situation.

The officer said specialized equipment and skilled personnel were utilized during the intense rescue operation.

After several hours of laborious efforts, the team managed to lift Rather to the surface, albeit in an injured condition.

He was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility for necessary treatment.

Meanwhile, residents praised the collaborative efforts of the civil administration, hospital authorities, and various rescue teams for their remarkable rescue operation.

However, some residents attributed the incident to a lack of adequate water supply from the authorities, particularly the Jal Shakti Department. They claimed that the wells serve as a crucial source of water for the entire village, especially during the water scarcity in summers and reliance on a local stream in winters.

The residents criticized the department for failing to address the persistent water crises in the area.
