Kupwara, Feb 02 : Amid the job crisis in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the business sector is gaining momentum, and young people are increasingly making their mark. They are not only challenging the decade-long myth of dependence on government jobs but are also writing success stories in the private sector.
With the changing scenario, especially regarding the overall situation in Jammu and Kashmir, women are also reaching new heights with their successful endeavors, and they are not falling behind in the traditionally male-dominated society of Kashmir.
Among these women game-changers is Gulshan Begum, a 35-year-old resident of Dudipora village in the northern frontier district of Kashmir. She has set an example by transforming from a job seeker into a job provider.
In a conversation with The Web Story/The Varmul Post, Gulshan said, “Two years ago, I decided to start my own business venture. After hearing a lot about the schemes offered by the Animal Husbandry Department, I approached the department in Handwara to establish a low-cost polyhouse.”
She stated that after completing all the necessary formalities, the department approved my setup. Within just one year, I not only earned a handsome income but also became able to provide employment opportunities.
“Since 2024, I have earned nearly ₹2 lakh in profit from this polyhouse setup,” she said.
Gulshan, a nursing trainee and a mother of three children, mentioned that following my success with the polyhouse, I expanded my business and ventured into mushroom farming. Later, as my interest in business grew, I established a sheep farming unit.
Gulshan said, “Initially, I faced challenges with the sheep farming unit, but with the help of the department, I persevered and moved forward. Today, Alhamdulillah, I am earning well and am able to provide job opportunities.”
She emphasized, “How long can we wait for government jobs when we have better options available? We just need to step forward and put in the effort. I don’t think a person will fail if they try.”
Gulshan further said that the LG-led government has provided many schemes through which we can change our future and lead a good life alongside our families and within our society.
Regarding women, Gulshan said, “Now it is hardly noticeable whether an individual is male or female, as both genders are equally working in every sector. If we look at Kashmir, we can see that girls are gradually taking the lead.”
