All the major roads, link roads, and inner lanes were cleared of snow in Baramulla town within 24 hours after the snowfall.

The president of the Municipal Council (MC) in Baramulla, Toussef Raina, who was personally monitoring the snow clearance operation across the town, said all the major roads, inner links, and lanes were cleared within less than 24 hours post snowfall.

He said all the men and machinery were pressed to clear the snow from all the roads and inner links within the town, including Janbazpora to Khanpora, the main town of Baramulla.

He said that besides the roads and lanes of adjoining areas of the town, all the roads and inner links falling under the jurisdiction of MC Baramulla were also cleared.

“Whole men and machinery were pressed to clear snow from all major and inner links and lanes.”

“We have cleared almost all the areas within 24 hours.”

Raina said that besides pressing whole machinery in the process, the MC Baramulla staff cleared the snow from narrow lanes in several areas of the old town as well.

He said in view of the prediction of the heavy snowfall, machines were already stationed at crucial spots, and the snow clearance operation was started during the early morning hours on Monday.

Raina lauded the role of the whole staff and the drivers who were engaged in the snow clearing operation and also extended their gratitude to the public for their patience.

“The snow clearance operation was started as per the priority wherein all essential roads were cleared first, followed by all other major roads and link roads as well,” he said.

He said that people extended their cooperation and allowed the men and machinery to clear snow from all the roads systematically.

He also hailed the Mechanical Engineering Department, which pressed their machines to clear the snow from the highway.

“It really complemented our work in clearing the snow from all the roads,” he said.

He did, however, state that any unfinished inner lanes or alleys would be prioritised.

“The residents of these areas can contact me, and I will ensure that men and machinery are deputed to their areas,” he said.
