Sopore, Oct 28 : A one-day seminar on youth empowerment, quality education and good governance was organised at Government Degree College for Women, Sopore, with speakers stressing the need for skill-based learning, innovation, women’s empowerment and inclusive development to realise the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The seminar was organised by the Sub-District Administration, Sopore, in collaboration with the college on October 24 and brought together academicians, faculty members, principals and students to deliberate on the role of education and youth leadership in nation-building.

He urged students to develop scientific temper, critical thinking, leadership qualities and a sense of social responsibility, while appreciating the college administration for organising the academic programme.
The college principal emphasised that accessible and inclusive quality education, particularly the education and empowerment of women, was essential for building a progressive and self-reliant nation.
She said educational institutions had a key role in fostering innovation, ethical values, scientific thinking and leadership among students, preparing them to contribute to the country’s development.
Keynote speaker Dr Daraksha Bhat stressed the need to provide women with equal educational opportunities, economic independence and greater participation in leadership and decision-making.
She encouraged young women to overcome social barriers and use education and skill development to become independent and active contributors to society.
During a technical session, Dr Tariq Ahmad Sheikh highlighted the importance of transparency, accountability and equitable delivery of public services in strengthening democratic institutions.

Dr Nazrul Islam, scholar, academician and convener of the seminar, called for a shift towards skill-based education that equips students with practical knowledge, creativity, problem-solving abilities and leadership qualities.
Education should go beyond academic degrees and prepare students for employment, responsible citizenship and meaningful service to society, he said.
Addressing students, Islam said, “When you learn well, you earn well,” urging them to use their time effectively, acquire employable skills and pursue continuous learning.
He also encouraged young people to become job creators rather than merely job seekers, stressing the importance of digital literacy, vocational education, communication skills, entrepreneurship and innovation.
The realisation of Viksit Bharat 2047 would require coordinated efforts by educational institutions, teachers, parents, government departments and civil society, he said, calling for greater emphasis on career guidance and inclusive learning opportunities.
