Sopore, May 11 : Senior BJP leader and Waqf Chairperson Dr Darakshan Andrabi, along with BJP General Secretary Ashok Koul and other party functionaries, attended a function in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district to felicitate Kabbadi coach Nahida Nabi for her contribution to sports.

Nabi was recognised for her work in training youth in a male-dominated society and for steering them away from drug abuse and other illegal activities.

The event was held as part of the ‘Asluk Aalav’ (The Call for Truth) public discourse series, organisers said.

Speaking on the occasion, De Andrabi lauded Nabi’s efforts in mentoring young athletes amid concerns over unemployment and the rising drug menace in the valley.

BJP general secretary Ashok Koul described her as an inspiration for women in the region.
