PC activists climb vehicles, raise slogans in Kanil Bagh; official says rival parties may be trying to ‘deliberately create scenes’
Says citizens must act responsibly
BARAMULLA, MAY 10: What began as a peaceful political meeting at Sangri Top in north Kashmir’s Baramulla ended in chaos and objections over public discipline, with activists climbing atop vehicles and raising slogans before turning the Kanil Bagh area into an impromptu roadshow — without official permission.
Eyewitnesses told The Web Story/The Varmul Post that after the formal gathering of the People’s Conference (PC), a section of workers indulged in unruly behaviour, climbing onto four-wheelers and causing traffic snarls. The situation escalated when a large group proceeded towards the residential Kanil Bagh locality, shouting political slogans and disrupting normal life.

Sources said the administration had granted permission only for the meeting at Sangri Top. “No authorisation was given for any procession or roadshow through residential neighbourhoods,” a source said, requesting anonymity.
Local residents expressed resentment over road blockades and noise pollution caused by loud sloganeering. “Public roads and lanes cannot be turned into political stages at the cost of our peace and daily routine,” a Kanil Bagh resident said.
Authorities have been urged to take cognisance of the incident. “Such unchecked behaviour raises serious questions about civic responsibility. If left unaddressed, this could become the norm,” sources added.
An official told The Web Story/The Varmul Post that while no permission was granted for the roadshow, it could be a case of political rivalry. “People from different parties may be deliberately trying to involve themselves in matters that create scenes. A responsible citizen should act, behave, and deal with everything reasonably,” the official said.
