Baramulla, Oct 09: As the National Conference (NC)-led government is set to complete one year in office, senior People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Rafique Rather has launched a scathing indictment, characterizing the party’s tenure as a period of capitulation rather than governance.
Speaking to The Web Story/The Varmul Post, Rather accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s government of an abject surrender to the central government. “This government has done nothing but kneel before New Delhi,” he stated, asserting that the NC had traded its principles for political power.
The PDP leader leveled a serious charge that the “humiliation of August 2019″—a reference to the constitutional changes that revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status—was being “repackaged and celebrated as ‘normalcy’.”
“Those who promised to defend our dignity have instead become partners in our disempowerment,” Rather declared, framing the government’s narrative as deeply disconnected from public sentiment.
He further dismissed the administration’s development agenda as a deceptive facade. “They speak of ‘development’ while our identity, jobs, and land are being looted,” he contended. “This is not governance; it is a political deal to erase Kashmir’s voice.”
He added by stating, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir will never forgive or forget this betrayal. We will remain the unwavering voice of dignity, resistance, and truth—regardless of how uncomfortable it makes those in power.”
