Sopore, Oct 10: Following the remarkable victory of National Conference candidate Irshad Rasool Kar in the recent assembly elections. Just two weeks prior, Vice President Omar Abdullah addressed the people in Sopore town, pledging that a decisive win for Kar would secure him a cabinet minister position. That promise looms larger now, as Kar triumphed with an astounding margin.

Irshad Rasool Kar,secured a total of 26,975 votes, while Advocate Mursaleen came in second with 6,619 votes, and two-time former MLA Haji Abdul Rashid Dar received 5,167 votes.

Political experts told The Web Story/The Varmul Post that this win of Irshad Rasool Kar’s is a watershed moment for Sopore, because town often overshadowed in electoral fronts, which has now galvanized a sense of hope and unity among its residents.

They said the atmosphere in Sopore has transformed from previous election apathy to a vibrant expression of civic engagement, highlighted by significant voter turnout and enthusiastic celebrations on polling day. The local populace is energized and eager for representation that reflects their aspirations and addresses pressing concerns.

Yet, as the dust settles on the victory, a crucial question arises: Will Omar Abdullah deliver on his commitment? For many, the prospect of having Irshad Rasool Kar as a cabinet minister signifies more than just political gain; it represents a chance for Sopore to reclaim its voice in the assembly, ensuring that the unique challenges faced by the community do not go unheard.

The stakes are high, as this isn’t Omar Abdullah’s first promise made in the town. His previous assurance during Lok Sabha campaigns to support Kar in the assembly elections has already been successfully fulfilled. Now, with a historic win behind him, the dialogue in Sopore centers on whether Abdullah will honor his current pledge and elevate Kar to a ministerial position.

The outcome of this political narrative will be closely monitored by local National Conference supporters and residents, who fervently hope that this time, Sopore will not only be represented but will also have a minister who champions its cause in the state assembly. Will Omar Abdullah keep his promise? Only time will reveal the answer in this pivotal chapter for Sopore’s political future.
