Music has always been part of Kashmir’s cultural heritage – the region’s rich musical legacy includes folk ballads, Sufiyanah and devotional songs. However, Punjabi music has now replaced other music to a great extent, even the once famous Bollywood music.
Punjabi music is everywhere these days. Its presence is unavoidable and its impact on the youth and the Hindi film industry needs no proof. Earlier the Bollywood music, movies and artists used to be the favorites and household names in Kashmir but an abrupt change occurred with the independent Punjabi artists making inroads in the musical spheres of Kashmir.
With Sidhu Moose Wala’s brutal killing, everybody became an expert on Punjab’s pop music culture here in Kashmir. Even Sidhu’s musical songs started featuring more in Kashmir besides his pictures on vehicles and streets popped up.
Board any public transport and you can witness Punjabi music on high pitch enthralling the passengers who keep on tapping on its beats.
Not only this, the young generation is taking to social media, Vlogs and keep on using Punjabi pop music in its videos. What can be more amazing that even young music enthusiasts also keep on singing Punjabi songs at parties and family functions.
